How To Make Green Juice Without A Juicer

Make it stand out

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

I am starting to believe that more than half of physical wellness depends on positive thinking, and nothing makes you feel like you are about to run a marathon and then bench press 300 pounds more than drinking green juice. Its greenness makes you feel super fit and healthy (even if you haven't been to the gym in weeks *cough* months! *cough*). But fitness enthusiasts beware! Not all juices are created equal! Some juices are just as sugary as a can of Coca-Cola, with as much as 51 grams of sugar! I'm not saying there is never a place for sugar, but wouldn't you rather consume it with some butter and flour in the form of a baked good?

Other healthier juices can contain less sugar but taste like Christmas trees (don't ask me how I know what a Christmas tree tastes like; just trust me on this). And don't even get me started on cost! The healthier, cheaper solution is to make your own.

If you don't have a juicer, this recipe is for you. Many nutritionists prefer blending vegetables instead of extracting juices from their helpful fibers. While traditional juicing definitely has its place (I will NEVER eat a blended carrot smoothie), a blender is all you need for greens!

Green Juice Recipe

  • 3/4 cup fresh spinach (1 and a half handfuls)

  • 1/2 cup ice

  • 1/2 banana

  • 4 oz water

  • 4 oz apple juice

  • 1 tsp lemon or lime juice (I prefer lime)

A couple more notes:

If you have a severe sweet tooth and want to prevent sugar withdrawal, add more bananas and replace the water with apple juice. However, to increase the health component, slowly cut back until you are back to the recipe. I recommend you try the recipe first.

Here is a caregiver pro tip: If you have a little one (or, let's be honest, a fully grown adult) who is a picky eater, pour the juice in a container they can't see inside, like a metal water bottle. Let them get their recommended daily dose of vegetables by sipping them through a Mickey Mouse water bottle or Stanley Cup. They'll never know the difference and will have consumed something other than dino nuggets.

Also, and I cannot stress this enough: If you aren't used to eating a lot of greens (no judgment), you should only be having about 12 ounces at a time to start (any more and you might become best friends with your toilet seat I know that's TMI but friends don't let friends poop themselves).

Happy Juicing everyone!
